Various themes run through my work which is mainly oils and gouache; they include interiors and architecture, landscapes and geological studies, portraits from life, cloth and clothes. I often work from direct observation in the studio. Sketches inform all my work, although they may be adapted. Abstract qualities of tonal composition, paint surface and sometimes expressive use of colour are my prime concerns.
