Silvia Castaldo

Silvia Castaldo was born in 1969 in Rome, where she continues to live and work, Beginning at a very young age, she taught herself painting, the medium through which she was able to interpret and communicate with the world outiside herself. Over the years, her art has moved increasingly towards abstraction, as a means to translate reality in all its complexity, and her focus has centered more on the meaning of that reality for the subject experiencing it. Her intense and continual exploration includes experimenting with the use of materials in all their shapes and colours, moving ever further from the figurative. She has also worked with new techniques, such as dripping, revealing the inspiration of the great masters of abstractionism, such as Kandinsky, Picasso, Malevich, Fontana and Burri. She has had numerous solo shows and participated in many group exhibitions as well.
