The black and white works are reminiscent of film stills and/or photographic sequences but they are also concerned with actual physical surface textures. In some of the semi-abstract scenes there are signs of the presence of figures which appear as traces of the past, as isolated individuals, often in conflict with or overwhelmed by, their surroundings.

Other paintings shown here are studies from life of natural surfaces - stones/rocks. Surface layers are built up using palette knives and brushes to apply oil paint and glazes, focusing on texture, form, colour and the effects of erosion.
